In 2019 I experienced some personal challenges medically and I found myself going in to 2020 reflecting and re-evaluating life with promises of change and new beginnings, however little did we know that 2020 had other ideas. Metaphorically speaking it became the year that we all had to look for the silver lining. In every corner of the world news of suffering and devastation became all too familiar and we found ourselves clinging on to the heart-warming stories of communities coming together and how as a society we adapted and showed resilience. One thing for sure is that it’ll be the year that will be remembered for generations to come.
As a Mum to two young children, one who was born during lockdown and the other who like every other child experienced a sense of grief as they lost out on so much, the little things in life became moments of true happiness and a realisation that nothing should ever be taken for granted. I like everyone else was being given this chance to just stop, something that is rarely afforded in today’s modern world.
Despite embracing the quiet and the opportunity to get off the roller coaster of life as such I have to admit I felt a little lonely and robbed of my maternity leave due to yet another lockdown. The chance to connect with others at a time where a new mum needs it the most was non-existent. In the absence of that connection and following a few tough moments I decided to stop procrastinating and finally put pen to paper to jot down everything that had been whirling about in my head for so long and explore starting my own little business.
As we all navigated a different kind of normal with some aspects of life being put on hold other life events were still happening. I am sure we all found ourselves marking a moment of some sort in lockdown and needing to revert to doing this virtually or on the doorstep from a distance. The right to hug loved ones to celebrate, soothe and comfort was taken away from us and we lost that sense of connection that we all need. Birthdays came and went, babies were still being born, goodbyes became all too familiar and we all knew of someone who needed a lift at a difficult time. With that in mind and a love of gifting to others I wanted to create a gift box experience that came with the message take some time out for you and be kind to yourself!
Reinforcing that self care message was just as important as the products in each box. They had to be ethically sourced, natural and supported another small business story. As I researched it became clear that anything you buy from a small business is made with passion, dedication but also meets their values. I feel extremely lucky to be able to showcase the aspiring stories of all the businesses that are featured in a takefive gift box because I know they meet my values and goals.
I am confident that each gift box will not only create an experience for the recipient but will also offer a boost regardless of the occasion. Knowing that it has brought a smile to someone's face is the drive that motivates me and this journey.
I would love for you to let me help you mark the moments and celebrate the milestones by treating someone to a takefive gift box.
